Adam Good is an interdisciplinary artist currently residing in Pittsboro, NC.
His work explores the ways that meaning emerges out of the intersection of experience, action, and language.

Tony Mancus lives in Rosslyn, VA with his wife Shannon and two cats. He co-founded Flying Guillotine Press in 2008 with Sommer Browning. He works as a test writer and a writing instructor and he's got two chapbooks forthcoming in the next year or so - Bye Land with Greying Ghost and Bye Sea with Ghost Ocean. There's a lot of ghost and bye there. Most recently his poems have been up in Horse Less Review, Destroyer, Phoebe, Dark Sky, and Sixth Finch. Maureen Thorson is a poet, publisher, and book designer living in Washington, D.C. Her first book of poetry, Applies to Oranges, is available from Ugly Duckling Presse. She is also the author of a number of chapbooks, including Twenty Questions for the Drunken Sailor (2009), Mayport (2006), which won the Poetry Society of America's National Chapbook Fellowship, and Novelty Act (Ugly Duckling Presse 2004). Her poems can be found in many journals, including Exquisite Corpse, Hotel Amerika, LIT, The Hat, and 6×6. Maureen is the co-curator of the In Your Ear reading series at the DC Arts Center and the founder of NaPoWriMo, an annual project in which poets attempt to write a poem a day for the month of April.

Joe Fletcher is the author of two chapbooks, Already It Is Dusk, from Brooklyn Arts Press, and Sleigh Ride, published by Factory Hollow Press. Dara Wier is the author of numerous collections of poetry, including most recently, Selected Poems (Wave Books, 2009), encompassing work from 1977 through 2006. Her poetry has been supported by fellowships and awards from the Guggenheim Foundation, the National Endowment for the Arts, the Massachusetts Cultural Council, and the American Poetry Review. Her work has appeared in American Poetry Review, Boston Review, Conduit, Denver Quarterly, The Fairytale Review, Hollins Critic, jubilat, New American Writing, slope and Volt,among other magazines. She teaches workshops and form and theory seminars and directs the MFA program for poets and writers at the University of Massachusetts Amherst and co-directs the University of Massachusetts' Juniper Initiative for Literary Arts and Action. Each June she teaches a poetry workshop for the Juniper Summer Institute. Her editing work includes publishing limited edition chapbooks and broadsides with Factory Hollow Press, North Amherst, Massachusetts, a small independent press she co-edits with Emily Pettit and Guy Pettit. Along with James Haug and James Tate she edits the University of Massachusetts Press Juniper Series for poetry.

JosephP. Wood is the author of two books of poetry, Fold of the Map (Salmon Poetry) and I & We (CW Books). He also has published five chapbooks; recentpoems or essays have appeared in journals such as Boston Review, BOMB, Hotel Amerika, Arts & Letters Daily, Verse, amongothers. He is an instructor at The University of Alabama in the EnglishDepartment, where he co-created Slash Pine Projects, an undergrad internshipdedicated to book arts, community arts events, and—particularly exciting forhim—undergrad artist exchanges, where students from two schools write andperform their work together.

Janet Holmes is author of five books of poems, most recently The ms of my kin (Shearsman, 2009) and F2F (University of Notre Dame Press). Her work has received the Chad Walsh Prize, the Ernest Sandeen Award, the Minnesota Book Award, the Anhinga Prize, the Pablo Neruda Award, and grants from the Bush Foundation, McKnight Foundation, the Loft, the Minnesota Arts Board, and the Idaho Commission on the Arts. With an M.F.A. from Warren Wilson College and a B.A. from Duke University, she teaches poetry writing and form and theory in the M.F.A. Program in Creative Writing at Boise State University, where she is the director and editor of Ahsahta Press, an all-poetry independent press.

MC Hyland is the author of Neveragainland (Lowbrow Press, 2010), and the chapbooks Every Night In Magic City (H_NGM_N, 2010), Residential, As In (Blue Hour Press, 2009) and (with Kate Lorenz and Friedrich Kerksieck) the hesitancies (Small Fires Press, 2006). She lives in Minneapolis, where she runs DoubleCross Press and the Pocket Lab Reading Series, and works at Minnesota Center for Book Arts.

A native of Philippi, West Virginia, Mike Smith teaches at Delta State University, where he also serves as editor of Tapestry, a literary journal focusing on the Mississippi Delta. He is a graduate of UNC-G, Hollins College, and the University of Notre Dame, and he’s published two full-length collections of poetry, How to Make a Mummy and Multiverse. His poems have appeared in Chattahoochee Review, DMQ, Hotel Amerika, The Iowa Review, Salt, and Shampoo, and the anthologies Visiting Dr. Williams and The Open Light: Poets of Notre Dame.

Laura Solomon is the author of three collections of poetry, most recently The Hermit from Ugly Duckling Presse. An Alabama native, she has most recently lived in Paris, Philadelphia and Verona, Italy.

Abby Beckel is the co-founder and publisher of Rose Metal Press (www.rosemetalpress.com), an indie publisher of cross-genre writing. She has a master's degree from Emerson College, is a published poet and magazine writer, and lives with her fiance Jay in a 110-year-old house in Washington, DC. She wishes Sarah Bartlett was her pen name, but sadly, one of her favorite poets already claimed it.

Since the day he was born, Jeremiah Gould has been getting bigger. He has a proven track record and several more unproven track records. He has a B.A. from the University of New Hampshire and is Editorial Assistant for Rope-a-Dope Press in South Boston. Daniel Coudriet lives with his wife and son in Richmond, Virginia, and in Carcarañá, Argentina. He is the author of Say Sand (Carnegie Mellon University Press, 2010) and Parade (Blue Hour Press, 2011). His poems and translations of Argentinean poetry have made recent appearances or are forthcoming in Verse, Boston Review, Bateau, The Laurel Review, Parcel, Typo, and elsewhere.

Jennifer Militello is the author of Flinch of Song, winner of the Tupelo Press First Book Prize, and of the chapbook Anchor Chain, Open Sail. Her second collection, Body Thesaurus, was named a finalist for the Alice Fay Di Castagnola Award by Marilyn Hacker and is forthcoming from Tupelo Press in 2013. A Ruskin Art Club Poetry Award recipient and five-time Pushcart Prize nominee, Militello has been published widely in such journals as The Kenyon Review, The New Republic, The North American Review, The Paris Review, and The Virginia Quarterly Review, and anthologized in Best New Poets 2008. Her work has been awarded grants and fellowships from the New Hampshire State Council on the Arts, the Barbara Deming Memorial Fund, Writers at Work, and the Millay Colony for the Arts.

Debrah Morkun's first full-length book of poetry, Projection Machine, was published by BlazeVox Books in April 2010. Lily Brown's first book, Rust or Go Missing, is out or will be out very soon from Cleveland State University Poetry Center. Poems have appeared recently in Colorado Review and American Letters and Commentary, and are forthcoming in 6X6. She is a Ph.D. student in English and Creative Writing at the University of Georgia.

Anna Lena Phillips works for American Scientist by day and is poetry editor of Fringe by night. She lives in Minneapolis.

Joe Hall's first book of poems is Pigafetta Is My Wife (Black Ocean Press 2010). His poetry and fiction have appeared in Gulf Coast, HTML Giant, Barrelhouse, Hayden's Ferry Review, Zone 3 and elsewhere. With Wade Fletcher he co-organizes the DC area reading series Cheryl's Gone. Rauan Klassnik's book, Holy Land, released from Black Ocean in early 2008. Rauan spends most of his time in Mexico: walking the dogs, watering the garden and dreaming of how high the bamboo stalks will grow. He'd love to say he's "religious."

Sampson Starkweather is from Pittsboro, North Carolina. He hopes that all of the counting and addition that goes into his poems is doing some good in the world. He thinks that 89 is a better number than most, and his current project is a series of 89-line poems. He is the author of two books of poems, Carbon (Ugly Duckling 2006) and Olympia Street (Trembling Pillow 2008). He no longer lives in New Orleans.

Joshua Marie Wilkinson's new collections are The Book of Whispering in the Projection Booth (Tupelo 2009) and Selenography (Sidebrow 2010) featuring Polaroids by Califone's Tim Rutili. He lives in Chicago and Athens, GA.

Shane Smith is a graphic designer living in Raleigh, NC. He graduated with a BFA in Illustration from East Carolina University. He was recently featured in Print Magazines Regional Design Annual, representing Raleigh with 2 logos. When not designing for the man, he plays with kittens, reads books at 25 words a minute, and gets serious about making people laugh at Dirty South Improv in Carrboro.

Our New Collaboration and Our New Venue

We'd like to re-introduce The So and So Reading Series, a quarterly reading and design endeavor soon to be launched in downtown Raleigh (having been transplanted from its Boston origins). So and So seeks to fill Raleigh's poetry void by bringing in both national and regional poets.

The So and So series will coordinate with the new print journal, The Raleigh Quarterly (coinciding quarterly readings with RQ's issue launches). Raleigh Quarterly will print work from the visiting poets alongside visual pieces. Additional poems will be published online.

Additionally, So and So will collaborate with local artists and printers to create limited run broadsides of each poet's work.

Chris Salerno and Chris Tonelli will run the series and edit the poetry element of Raleigh Quarterly. Readings will start in February 2009. We'll make announcements as readings near and rosters are filled.

*Readings will be held on Saturdays, 8pm, at The Morning Times Café on Hargett Street in Raleigh.

Dorothea Lasky was born in St. Louis in 1978. She is the author of the full-length collection of poems, AWE (Wave Books, 2007), as well as the chapbooks Alphabets and Portraits and The Hatmaker’s Wife. She has attended Harvard University and the University of Massachusetts, Amherst. She currently lives in Philadelphia, where she co-edits the Katalanché Press chapbook series and is pursuing her doctorate in education from the University of Pennsylvania.

Dara Wier is the author of ten collections of poetry, most recently Remnants of Hannah and Reverse Rapture (Wave Books, 2006 and 2005, respectively). She has received awards from the Guggenheim Foundation, the NEA and The American Poetry Review. She directs the MFA program for poets and writers at the University of Massachusetts Amherst and co-directs the University of Massachusetts' Juniper Initiative for Literary Arts and Action.

James Tate is the author of numerous books of poetry and prose, most recently The Ghost Soldier (Ecco, 2008). His Selected Poems won the Pulitzer Prize and the William Carlos Williams Award in 1991. His other honors include a National Book Award and fellowships from the Guggenheim Foundation and the National Endowment for the Arts. He teaches at the University of Massachusetts, Amherst.

Rauan Klassnik was born a long time ago. Rauan Klassnik is not dead, though he often sure-damned feels like it. Rauan's primary goal in life is to live forever. Jon Thompson teaches at North Carolina State University, where he edits Free Verse: A Journal of Contemporary Poetry & Poetics and Free Verse Editions, a new poetry series. She is the author of the chapbook The Renaissance Sheet, published by Octopus Books in 2007, and her second chapbook, Old with You, is forthcoming from Kitchen Press in 2008. Poems have appeared or will appear in Typo, Octopus, Handsome, Coconut, Fence, Pleiades and 26.

Originally from the Upper Mississippi River Valley, Betsy Wheeler studied poetry and the art of the book at the University of Wisconsin, LaCrosse where she was a Maple House Fellow for Sutton Hoo Press. She received her MFA in poetry from The Ohio State University in 2005, then lived, worked, and wrote as the Stadler Fellow at Bucknell University's Stadler Center for Poetry from 2005-2007. Her poems have recently appeared in The Journal, Bat City Review, MiPoesias, Pebble Lake Review, Forklift Ohio, Ping Pong, and Absent. Her chapbook, Start Here, is available from Small Anchor Press. Co-editor of Pilot and Pilot Books, she lives in Northampton, Massachusetts where she works for Wondertime magazine.

John Mercuri Dooley lives in Cambridge, Mass., where he and his husband, Andrew Richardson, curate the Demolicious Poetry/Multimedia Series. MuBet, an ongoing online project, can be seen at . Other work has appeared in literary magazines and sites including Blaze Vox, facsicle, Gut Cult, Moria, No Tell Motel, Shampoo and Word For/word, and has been distributed as mail art by Marymark Press. His multimedia work has been presented at the Brickbottom Gallery in Somerville, and Oni Gallery and Atlantic Works Gallery in Boston. He has written book reviews fo Boog City and Jacket.

Derek Fenner is a graduate of the Kerouac School of Disembodied Poetics MFA Program and currently resides in Lowell, MA above Page’s clock. He is the director of “Unlocking the Light”, a federal grant for a program he helped design to incorporate art in the professional development of the Department of Youth Services in Massachusetts. Previous to this, he began an art mentorship program and taught art to juveniles in a maximum security lock-down facility for the State of Massachusetts. Some of the work he did with these students was chronicled at the Rhys Gallery from February 10th - March 4th, 2006 and called "Temporary Walls: The Visual Voices of Detained Youth." He is the author of My Favorite Color is Red: Experiments with Lines 1999-2005. Derek has also finished his portraiture series: 100 People You Should Know. He also runs the Union Square Poetry Series,a bi-monthly Saturday reading at P.A.'s Lounge in Somerville, MA with Ryan Gallagher.

Ryan Gallagher lives in Lowell, MA with his wife and daughter. He is the author of Plum Smash and Other Flashbulbs published in 2005. Ryan has finished translating The Complete Works of Gaius Valerius Catullus, a project he began at the Kerouac School of Disembodied Poetics where he completed his MFA and where he was the recipient of the William Burroughs scholarship. He received his B.A. in Literature from Boston College. He also studied Thangka painting, traditional Tibetan Buddha paintings, for two years and is an accomplished oil painter. Ryan currently teaches high school literature.

John Mulrooney’s chapbook If You See Something, Say Something came out from the Anchorite press in 2006. His poems have appeared in Fulcrum, Pressed Wafer foldemzines and Shampoo, and are forthcoming in Process.

Mark Bibbins teaches in the graduate writing program at The New
School. His first collection of poems, Sky Lounge, received a Lambda
award and his second, The Dance of No Hard Feelings, is forthcoming in
2009 from Copper Canyon Press.

John Deming is originally from New Hampshire but currently lives in New York City where he teaches English at Baruch College and L.I.M. College. He is Co-Editor-in-Chief of the poetry book review journal Coldfront. His poems have appeared recently in such journals as Tarpaulin Sky, Past Simple, Dusie and Softblow. He has an MFA from The New School and a BA from the University of New Hampshire.

Matthew Yeager's poems have appeared most recently Bat City Review, Agriculture Reader, and Ocho. His long poem "A Big Ball of Foil in a Small NY Apartment," which was selected by Paul Muldoon for inclusion in Best American Poetry 2005, is currently being adapted into a short film. Shooting begins in March. In 2007, he was awarded fellowships by both VCCA and MacDowell. A native of Cincinnati, OH, he holds a BA from Butler University (2002) and an MFA in Poetry from the New School University (2004). Though he typically works for a catering company, he has taught English at CUNY and is a regular reviewer of poetry for Coldfront Magazine. He lives in Harlem.

Richard Deming is a poet and a theorist who works on the philosophy of literature. His first book of poems is Let's Not Call It Consequence (Shearsman, 2008). He is also the author of Listening on All Sides: Towards an Emersonian Ethics of Reading (Stanford UP, 2008). With Nancy Kuhl he edits Phylum Press.

Nancy Kuhl’s first full-length collection of poems, The Wife of the Left Hand, was published in 2007 by Shearsman Books. She is co-editor of Phylum Press, a small poetry publisher. She is Associate Curator of the Yale Collection of American Literature at the Beinecke Rare Book and Manuscript Library at Yale University.

Kate Schapira lives in Providence, RI, where she organizes the Publicly Complex reading series, featuring innovative work by soon-to-be-famous writers. She's the author of two chapbooks, Phoenix Memory (horse less press) and The Saint's Notebook (forthcoming from the CAB/NET Chapbook Series). She's taught poetry workshops to incarcerated women, middle-school students, college students and first-graders, and is proud of recent acceptances to and appearances in A Sing Economy (an anthology from Flim Forum Press), Denver Quarterly, Cannibal, Word for/Word and Practice.
